5 Fresh Tips to help you navigate and conquer burnout:
Learning to be mindful and to slow down is a new muscle for most of us. Oftentimes it can be overwhelming to think of how and when I can add in another task on top of everything else you have to do. Taking a pause and slowing down actually helps us to be more productive by clearing our mind and grounding ourselves. A simple way to add in some mindfulness to your day would be taking a pause in your car for a few moments. To do this make sure your car is in park. Ground your feet down into the floor. Turn off your music and put your phone away. Now take a slow deep breath in, pause, exhale slowly, pause. And repeat a few times. Sometimes I even close my eyes. Then when you feel your breath settle and relaxation happen, move onto the task you planned on.
Create your ideal calendar. Yes we all know how to schedule things but are you creating your ideal schedule. What are negotiables and non negotiables in your calendar? What tasks can you delegate or hire someone else to do? Yes it may cost money but it will save your physical, mental and emotional energy which you can’t put a price to. What events are you saying YES to that you really want to say NO to? Is there time in your schedule daily for you? Start with creating one ideal day a week. Need help? I do offer 1:1 session to focus only on creating your ideal calendar with strategies to make it happen.
Move! I don’t care how you move but do it in a way that makes you feel good. This is NOT a workout where we are pushing out bodies. Instead this is intentional to clear your thoughts, build endorphins, work on mindset, take in your surroundings, create space for new ideas. It could be going on a walk. I love suggesting getting out in nature and taking in all the scents, sounds and sights. Dancing is also another great way to move your body. Crank up your favorite song and dance. Dance like no one is watching and you feel completely free. Maybe you even grab a hairbrush to use as a microphone to sing with. The movement does not have to be long. Listen to your body and move it.
Hire a coach or therapist. Invest in you and the future you. You do not have to heal from burnout alone. There are many benefits of working with a coach or if needed a therapist. One is that the session is 100% about you. When do you have time in the week that is dedicated to focusing on you and your goals or dreams? They are there to provide you support, resources, tools, strategies, accountability and to cheer you on. Coaches collaborate with you to create a roadmap to help you to go after that dream, goal or reclaim your life.
You deserve selfcare time now not as a reward for doing hard work. Give yourself permission to schedule what you need before your battery gets low. Reminder selfcare is different for everyone or depending on the season. Add this to your calendar until it becomes a routine. Make it a self care appointment with yourself and treat it as you are meeting up with the most important person you can think of…. Because actually you are. You are making a date with yourself to take care of the present You and future you.
