4 Ways to Feel Empowered on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day can be a tricky day, so we asked empowerment coach Kristin Micalizzi for her tips on feeling your best and most empowered during an ugh day of the year! You can learn more about Kristin here.

The first thing to get out of the way when discussing how to feel on Valentine’s Day is to keep in mind the origins and the social constructs at play. This “holiday” has roots that date back to the 3rd century AD and has evolved to the highly commercialized, overly pink and red, heart-filled epic lovefest that we know today.

If you are having relationship struggles, going through a breakup, newly single, or have been on a solo journey for any length of time, February 14th may be particularly triggering for you.

Here are 4 tips for feeling empowered on Valentine’s Day!

Love YOURSELF

So you’re probably eye rolling and sighing that a Mindset and Empowerment Coach’s first piece of advice is to love yourself, but stick with me here.  Who knows you better than you do? Maybe you love chocolates, or poetry, or a hot bubble bath with rose petals! Lean into self-pleasure (eh-em yep) and be extra good to your number 1 (that’s you, in case you need reminding.)  Make the day all about you and what feels indulgent, juicy, and decadent. (Editor’s note: check out the House of Wise Sex Gummies, friend!)

Connect with Others

Connection is key when navigating challenging times. If you are feeling like being alone is too difficult or you can’t seem to muster the energy to celebrate alone, find a friend or a group of friends to be with. Plan a night out, a night in, or a virtual gathering to commemorate the day. Your theme could be dark and moody or light and airy, it’s your party so you make the rules!! There’s been a rise in popularity of “Galentine’s Day” in recent years so if this sounds fun to you, there are lots of ideas floating around that will help inspire you.

 Move Your Body

If your mind is racing and you feel that the day is overwhelming to you, connecting to your physical body with movement is helpful. This might mean your go-to form of exercise, a walk outside, or a dance party. Movement is a great way to shift your energy and increase your endorphins. (May we suggest the Fresh Starts playlist?)

Take the Pressure Off

Valentine’s Day is just another day on the calendar. Hallmark popularized it to make more profits and you probably remember celebrating way back in elementary school with shoe-box mailboxes and conversation hearts. Ultimately, you get to decide how to feel about it. You can choose to commemorate it, or you can treat it like any other day… a day to focus on your routine and whatever gets you closer to feeling good.

I’m rooting for you this Valentine’s Day and every other day! You got this!!
