What to say to your friend who is dealing with addiction issues

These scripts should serve as a guide for tough, trying, and tremendous life moments.

We’re here to support you in supporting your people. We’re proud of you. And we’ve got you.

Here’s what to say when you don’t know what to say.

First of all, I'm so proud of you for reaching out and talking to me. You know that I am in awe of your strength and love you dearly. Secondly, healing and recovery aren’t linear, and you're doing the very best you can, I am endlessly proud of you for that. Remember that you are not defined by your addiction. You are an amazing, loving, passionate, wonderful human who is having a tough moment, but it won't always be hard. We all love you and we are here to support you in anything you need. You can always reach out to me, there is no shame in asking for support. You are worthy of everything beautiful in this world, and all of the support you need.
